Dear Leaders,
Not only do your people want real leadership (aka EFFECTIVE leadership), they also want realness in leadership.
They want you to be real.
What does that mean, to be real? Let's riff together:
Your people want to know you're human….I'm talking about being the full package of a person with feelings, ideas, goals, uncertainty, a personal life, and all.
Your people want to know you know THEY are human…they are also the full package of a person with feelings, ideas, goals, uncertainty, a personal life, and all.
Your people want to know you care.
Your people want to know you do the work, too.
Your people want to know you think about what they want.
Your people want to see you show up as a professional who gets sh*t done, while still wearing your heart on your sleeve.
Your people want you to tell them the truth.
I could go on, but…why don't you take it from here?
Consider a leader in your life who's made a real impact on you and your development. Were they real? Or did they button themselves up, keep their heart at a distance, and stay guarded 24/7?
I'm guessing they kept it pretty real.
